Consider fostering a dog. . .

Foster a mini schnauzer!

We can always use foster homes. We don't have a shelter and our members integrate each dog into their families. The foster mom/dad evaluates the dog and tries to determine their needs. It can be very rewarding when you can find a dog the "perfect" home. We just watch the dog to see what kind of personality they have.

Many times the previous owner will make a statement like "not good with kids" but, after we evaluate the dog, we find that they are very good with children (children who can respect the dog, that is.) Housebreaking is a common reason but with consistency, this can be easily resolved.

Foster Parents have BIG hearts and Patience

Fostering requires a heart BIG enough to be able to let go when that perfect home is found. Our foster parents come from all kinds of situations. Some work fulltime, while others are home all day. Our Volunteers do not necessarily need to be located in the Portland/Vancouver area. We would appreciate and welcome foster homes/transportation anywhere in the states of Oregon and Washington.

The most important aspect is that the foster parents have the patience to work with these dogs. At any rate, this is worth considering! Fill out a Foster Application (pdf file) if you think you might be this person and fax or mail it to us. Please contact us for additional information. We will be happy to share our experiences with you and give you more specific information on fostering. Thank you!

Grooming. . .

Grooming is a necessity. Miniature Schnauzers are a high-maintenance breed when it comes to coat care. Many of us have learned to groom our own dogs and can sometimes groom the rescues as well. Unfortunately, some of the rescues come to us as one giant, matted mess, making a professional grooming necessary. We do have groomers who work with us by donating or discounting their services, but the cost can add up quickly.

If you can offer a grooming to us, please consider doing so. You will be recognized on our web site and in our literature. Please contact us.

The Muttley Crew does a wonderful job on Schnauzer cuts. They also offer dog daycare.

Donations can help. . .

Miniature Schnauzer Rescue is federally registered as a tax exempt, non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, so any monies received go right back into saving the lives of these wonderful dogs. Our members are all volunteers. None of us receives any type of monetary compensation for caring for these dogs. We do it because we love the breed. We often take hours to drive to pick up a dog from an animal shelter. While we use veterinarians who are gracious enough to discount their services for the rescue cause, we do have to pay for veterinarian care for these dogs. Some dogs require very little vet care but others may have many health problems that need to be addressed before they can be placed. The adoption fees remain the same for every dog; regardless of the amount of care they have received. Theoretically, this is supposed to balance out. The reality is that it rarely balances out. Your generous tax deductible donations can be mailed to us.

Or, make a donation today online via Paypal. Thank you very much!

Are you a Veterinarian?. . .

We know costs are high, but if you could donate spay/neuter, teeth cleaning or vaccinations per month, or offer a discount on those services to one of our Foster Parents in YOUR area, we can use that money to save another life by paying the pull fees from a kill shelter.

We would gladly acknowledge your services on our web site and in our literature.

Please contact us.

A Special Thank You...

Miniature Schnauzer Rescue would like to take a moment to thank Deanna Harkleroad, a Friend of Rescue. Deanna has been a breeder of fine Schnauzers for many, many years. She has helped Rescue in so many ways. She has always been there for us when we really needed a foster home and none were available. She has also been available to groom some pretty disreputable looking Schnauzers. As always, when Deanna grooms she changes ugly ducklings into swans.

There are no words to express our gratitude for all the care and concern she has shown for the breed she loves so much. Thank you, Deanna.

Why not give a Schnauzer a forever home today?
